The feel also varies depending on the material of the case, such as gold, silver, nickel alloys, or gunmetal alloys. Gold and silver are highly conductive metals, so they feel less cold and have a softer feel.
Alloy cases feel solid and give a very substantial, weighty impression.

With watches like those with hunter cases that have a cover to open, you may find yourself opening and closing it aimlessly, regardless of whether you need to check the time.
This may be similar to the feeling of repeatedly opening and closing a flip phone or clicking open and shut the lid of a Zippo lighter.

Watches from the antique era were much more expensive than they are today, and unless you were from the upper class or a wealthy family, you could not easily afford one.
Of course, there are still luxury watches today, but this was an era when watches were not cheap and disposable as they are now.

They are filled with the thoughts and feelings of the artisans who made them and the first owners who acquired them, and they have been passed down through generations and among multiple owners.
Each watch has its own history and drama, and there is a joy in reflecting on that.

Some watches have the initials or family crest of the first owner engraved on the cover or inside the cover, or inscriptions indicating what occasion it was given for and who gave it to whom.
Some also bear small, inconspicuous signatures engraved by the watchmaker who originally made the watch or the artisan who repaired it along the way.

It is precisely because these people passed them down through generations and cherished them that this small precision machine is still running well today, over 100 years later.
