We would like to introduce you to British antique cloches.
Cloche means "bell" in French, and is a dome-shaped lid-like tableware used to cover and preserve cakes, cheese, etc.
This is an old crochet piece from around 1810, made of "Old Sheffield Plate", a silver-plated piece made by heating and compressing a silver plate onto a copper plate, before electroplating was developed.
On each side is a coat of arms and the Latin inscription "DEO DUCE FERRO COMITANTE" (God as guide and sword as companion).
There is some dark copper on the inside, which is rare and proves that it has not been re-plated.
We hope this once-in-a-lifetime encounter will be a special one for you!
