Introducing the British antique sterling silver Vesta case.
A Vesta case was a small match holder from the time, with a file on the bottom for matching matches.

This is a work by Howard James from Birmingham, England in 1876.
The entire piece is decorated with detailed carvings of small flowers.
There is a problem with the leaf spring on the hinge part of the lid, so it won't stay in the open position, but the lid opens and closes smoothly and closes perfectly.
It is in such good condition that it is hard to believe that it was made nearly 150 years ago.
